Zinnia

Plant Description:
Zinnias are annual flowering plants known for their bright, daisy-like blooms in a wide range of colors, including red, orange, pink, yellow, white, and purple. They have a bushy growth habit with upright stems and coarse, lance-shaped leaves. Blooms can be single, semi-double, or fully double, depending on the variety, and attract pollinators such as butterflies and bees.

Grow Zone:
Grown as annuals in all USDA Zones (2–11). They thrive in warm weather and do not tolerate frost.

Height and Width:
Varies by variety. Dwarf cultivars grow 6–12 inches tall and wide, while taller types can reach 2–4 feet in height and spread about 1–2 feet wide.

Uses:
Commonly used in garden beds, borders, pollinator gardens, and as a colorful accent in landscapes. Zinnias are also prized as cut flowers due to their long-lasting blooms and sturdy stems. Dwarf types are suitable for containers and edging.

Native Range:
Native to Mexico and parts of Central America, where they grow in open, sunny fields and meadows.

Sun and Water Requirements:
Zinnias require full sun, ideally six or more hours of direct sunlight daily, to produce abundant flowers. They prefer well-drained soil and should be watered deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Overhead watering should be avoided to reduce the risk of mildew and fungal diseases.
