The white willow (Salix alba) is a medium to large deciduous tree that is native to Europe, Asia, North Africa, and central Russia. Willow bark has been used for thousands of years as an anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and analgesic. The bark and leaves of willow trees contain salicylates, including salicin and salicylic acid.

Class 1. In view of the lack of toxicological data, excessive use, especially during lactation and pregnancy, should be avoided. Individuals with aspirin hypersensitivity, asthma, diabetes, gastrosis, gout, hemophilia, hepatosis, hypothrombinemia, nephrosis, and peptic ulcers should be cautious with salicylates. Alcohol, barbiturates, and oral sedatives may potentiate salicylate toxicity.
