Verbena Endurascape ‘Dark Purple’ Growing Guide
Plant Description:
Verbena Endurascape ‘Dark Purple’ is a heat- and cold-tolerant perennial (grown as an annual in colder regions) valued for its clusters of deep purple flowers that bloom continuously from spring through fall. Dark Purple has a trailing to mounding habit with finely textured, green foliage, making it ideal for both ground coverage and container displays.
Grow Zone:
Perennial in USDA Zones 8–10. Grown as an annual in cooler zones.
Height and Width:
Typically grows 8–12 inches tall and spreads 18–24 inches wide, forming a dense mat when used as a groundcover.
Uses:
Commonly used in garden beds, borders, and pollinator gardens, as well as in hanging baskets and containers where its trailing habit can spill over edges. It is particularly attractive to butterflies and adds vibrant color to landscapes throughout the warm months.
Native Range:
Derived from hybrid garden verbenas, which trace their origins to species native to South America, particularly Brazil and Argentina.
Sun and Water Requirements:
Thrives in full sun, requiring six or more hours of direct sunlight daily for best blooming. Prefers well-drained soil and moderate watering, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Drought-tolerant once established but flowers more prolifically with regular moisture and occasional feeding during the growing season.
