Ixora 'Maui Red' Growing Guide

Plant Description:
Ixora 'Maui Red' is a compact, evergreen shrub prized for its dense clusters of bright red flowers and glossy, leathery green leaves. The flowers appear nearly year-round in warm climates and are attractive to pollinators. This tropical shrub has a neat, mounding growth habit, making it ideal for hedges, borders, or foundation plantings.

Grow Zone:
USDA Hardiness Zones 10–11. Can be grown in Zone 9 with protection from cold or as a container plant.

Height and Width:
Typically grows 3 to 4 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, forming a rounded mound.

Uses:

• Accent plant or low hedge

• Tropical and subtropical landscapes

• Container gardening on patios or balconies

• Pollinator gardens

• Formal and informal borders

Native Range:
Ixora species are native to tropical Asia, but 'Maui Red' is a cultivated variety developed for ornamental use in tropical and subtropical regions.

Sun Requirements:
Full sun to partial shade. Blooms best with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily, but some afternoon shade is tolerated in hot climates.

Water Requirements:
Moderate. Prefers consistently moist, well-drained soil. Water regularly during dry periods but avoid overwatering or poorly drained soils, which can lead to root rot. Mulching helps retain soil moisture.
