How to Grow Spiraea 'Reeves Bridal Wreath'

1. Planting Time:

   - Plant in early spring or fall when the temperatures are mild.

2. Soil Preparation:

   - Spiraea is adaptable to most soil types but prefers well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil.

   - Amend the soil with compost or organic matter if it is particularly poor or heavy.

3. Planting:

   - Space plants 4 to 6 feet apart to allow for their mature size.

   - Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and the same depth as the root ball's height.

   - Place the plant in the hole and backfill with soil, pressing down to remove air pockets.

4. Watering:

   - Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system.

   - Once established, Spiraea is fairly drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering during dry spells.

5. Fertilization:

   - Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer.

   - A layer of mulch around the base of the plant will help retain moisture and suppress weeds.

6. Sunlight:

   - Reeves Bridal Wreath thrives in full sun, requiring at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.

   - It can tolerate partial shade but may produce fewer flowers in less sunlight.

7. Pruning:

   - Prune immediately after flowering to shape the plant and encourage vigorous new growth.

   - Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches to maintain an open, healthy structure.

   - Avoid heavy pruning late in the season as it can reduce the number of blooms the following spring.

8. Pest and Disease Management:

   - Spiraea is generally resistant to pests and diseases, but it's good to monitor for aphids or spider mites, which can occasionally be an issue.

   - Regular inspection and proper spacing can help prevent any potential problems.
