Setcreasea Purple Queen

Setcreasea pallida, commonly known as Purple Queen or Purple Heart, is a fast-growing, trailing perennial prized for its vibrant purple foliage and small, pink, three-petaled flowers that appear throughout the warm season. It has a spreading, cascading habit, making it an excellent ground cover or container plant. This plant is drought-tolerant, heat-resistant, and low-maintenance, making it ideal for tough landscapes.

Native Range

Native to Mexico, specifically northeastern regions, where it thrives in warm, dry conditions.

Growing Conditions

• Light: Full sun to partial shade (best color in full sun).

• Soil: Well-draining soil, tolerates sandy and rocky soils; pH 5.5–7.5.

• Watering: Drought-tolerant once established; water when soil dries out.

• Humidity: Tolerant of a range of humidity levels.

• Temperature: Prefers warm weather; protect from frost (dies back in cold but regrows in spring).

• Fertilizer: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the growing season.
