Sansevieria (Mother in Law's Tongue or Snake Plant)

Plant Description:
Sansevieria, commonly known as snake plant or mother-in-law's tongue, is a hardy, upright-growing succulent with sword-shaped leaves that vary in color from deep green to variegated forms with yellow or silver markings. Known for its architectural form and tough constitution, Sansevieria is one of the most resilient indoor plants and is valued for its air-purifying capabilities.

Grow Zone:
USDA Zones 9–11. Widely grown as a houseplant in cooler zones.

Height and Width:
Depending on the variety, Sansevieria can grow from 6 inches up to 4 feet tall and spread 6 inches to 2 feet wide.

Uses:
Ideal for indoor spaces, container gardens, patios, and xeriscaping. Commonly used in homes and offices for its sculptural form and low maintenance needs.

Native Range:
Native to tropical West Africa.

Sun Requirements:
Tolerates low light but grows best in bright, indirect light. Can adapt to some direct sun, especially morning light.

Water Requirements:
Low water needs. Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is a common cause of root rot. Performs well in dry indoor air.
