Salvia 'Hummingbird Forest Fire' is a striking, heat-tolerant perennial (or annual in cooler zones) with vivid red flowers and dark, almost black calyxes. This upright, bushy plant is beloved for its long bloom period from spring through frost and its ability to attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and other pollinators.

Grow Zone:
USDA Zones 8–11 (can be grown as an annual in colder zones).

Height and Width:

  • Height: 24–36 inches
  • Spread: 18–24 inches

Uses:

  • Pollinator gardens (hummingbirds and butterflies)
  • Garden borders and mass plantings
  • Containers and patio gardens
  • Cut flower gardens
  • Drought-tolerant and xeriscape landscapes

Native Range:
Derived from Salvia coccinea, native to the southeastern United States, Mexico, and Central America.

Growing Conditions:

  • Light: Full sun to partial shade (at least 6 hours of sunlight for best blooms).
  • Soil: Well-draining, moderately fertile soil; tolerates poor soil conditions.
  • Water: Moderate; water regularly until established, then drought-tolerant. Avoid waterlogged soil.

Care Tips:
