Rose, Belinda's Dream

Rose, Belinda's Dream

Plant name: Rose, Belinda’s Dream

Scientific name: Rosa ‘Belinda’s Dream’

Plant description:
Belinda’s Dream is a vigorous shrub rose known for its strong disease resistance, repeat blooming habit, and full, classic flower form. It develops into a rounded, well-branched shrub with sturdy canes and consistent performance across a wide range of climates. This cultivar is valued for combining the traditional look of a hybrid tea rose with the resilience and reliability of a landscape shrub rose.

Flower description:
Blooms are large, double, and soft pink with a high petal count and a full, cupped form. Flowers typically measure 4–5 inches across and carry a noticeable, sweet fragrance. Belinda’s Dream blooms in flushes from spring through fall, with strong repeat flowering when properly maintained.

Leaf description:
Foliage is medium to dark green with a semi-glossy finish. Leaves are compound and moderately thick, offering improved resistance to common foliar diseases compared to many traditional roses. Healthy foliage provides a strong backdrop to the soft pink blooms.

Deciduous or evergreen:
Deciduous in colder climates; semi-evergreen in milder regions

USDA grow zones:
USDA Zones 5–10

Mature height and width:
Typically 4–6 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide, forming a full, rounded shrub

Landscape uses:
Suitable for foundation plantings, mixed shrub borders, rose gardens, and specimen plantings. Performs well in mass plantings or as a focal point in perennial beds. Its repeat bloom and strong structure make it effective in both formal and informal garden designs.

Native range:
Cultivated garden hybrid developed in the United States

Sun exposure:
Full sun is required for strong flowering and healthy growth. A minimum of six hours of direct sunlight daily supports consistent bloom production.

Water requirements:
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment and active growth. Water deeply at the base of the plant to encourage strong root development. Avoid overhead irrigation to reduce foliar disease risk. Well-drained soil is essential.

Pests and problems:
Noted for strong resistance to black spot and other common rose diseases, though occasional issues with aphids, spider mites, or Japanese beetles may occur. Proper spacing and air circulation help maintain foliage health.

Heat and sun tolerance:
Excellent heat tolerance. Maintains flower form and foliage quality through warm summer conditions when provided with adequate water and nutrition.

Cold tolerance:
Hardy to USDA Zone 5. In colder climates, winter dieback may occur, but plants typically regrow from the crown in spring with proper seasonal care.

Growing tips:
Plant in fertile, well-drained soil amended with organic matter. Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the shrub and remove dead or weak canes, encouraging strong new growth. Deadhead spent blooms to promote repeat flowering. Apply a balanced rose fertilizer during the growing season to support continuous bloom cycles without excessive soft growth. Maintain mulch around the root zone to conserve moisture and moderate soil temperature, keeping it clear of the main stems.
