Pulmonaria 'Opal' is a charming shade-loving perennial prized for its early spring blooms and distinctive foliage. It produces clusters of pale silvery-blue to opalescent flowers that appear before many other garden plants have awakened. The lance-shaped leaves are often green with silvery spotting, adding visual interest throughout the growing season.
Grow Zone:
USDA Zones 4 to 9
Height and Width:
Grows 10 to 14 inches tall and spreads 18 to 24 inches wide
Uses:
Excellent for shade gardens, woodland borders, ground cover, or underplanting around shrubs and trees. It is also deer resistant and attracts early pollinators, including bees.
Native Range:
Pulmonaria species are native to Europe and western Asia
Sun Requirements:
Prefers partial to full shade. Can tolerate morning sun in cooler climates but benefits from protection against hot afternoon sun, especially in southern regions.
