Passiflora incarnata

Passiflora incarnata, commonly known as Purple Passionflower or Maypop, is a fast-growing, herbaceous perennial vine known for its striking, intricate purple flowers with a central crown of filaments. The flowers are fragrant and followed by egg-shaped, yellowish fruit that are edible when ripe. Its tendrils allow it to climb fences, trellises, and nearby vegetation, forming a lush, tropical-looking display.

Uses:

The fruit is edible and sometimes used in juices or preserves, and various plant parts have been used in herbal medicine for their calming properties.

Southeastern United States, from Texas and Florida northward to Illinois and Pennsylvania

Full sun to partial shade; flowering is most prolific in full sun

Water Requirements:
Moderate water needs; prefers well-drained soils but tolerates short periods of drought once established. Regular watering encourages robust growth and fruiting.
