Plant Description:
Oxalis 'Purple,' also known as Purple Shamrock or False Shamrock, is a striking perennial with deep purple, triangular leaves that fold at night and reopen during the day. It produces delicate, pale pink or white flowers that bloom intermittently throughout the year. This plant is admired for its ornamental foliage and ease of care.

Grow Zone:
USDA Zones 7–11 (grown as a houseplant or annual in cooler zones).

• Spread: 12–18 inches

Uses:

• Indoor houseplant or patio container
• Garden borders and edging
• Ground cover in shaded areas
• Decorative accent for mixed planters

Native Range:
Native to South America, particularly Brazil.

Growing Conditions:

• Light: Bright, indirect light indoors; partial shade outdoors (avoids harsh afternoon sun).
• Soil: Well-draining, fertile soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0).
• Water: Water when the top inch of soil is dry; avoid overwatering. Allow dormancy in winter by reducing watering.
• Temperature: Thrives in 60–75°F (15–24°C); protect from frost and extreme heat.
• Fertilizer: Feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the active growing season (spring to fall).

Care Tips:

• Allow the plant to go dormant if it starts losing leaves—reduce watering and resume once new growth appears.
• Divide bulbs every 2–3 years to maintain plant vigor.
• Watch for pests like spider mites and aphids, especially on indoor plants.
• Trim dead leaves to encourage fresh growth.
