Malanga Eddo is a tropical root vegetable known for its starchy, edible corms that resemble taro. The plant has large, arrow-shaped green leaves that can grow up to 3 feet long, creating a lush, tropical appearance. It thrives in warm climates and is cultivated primarily for its edible underground tubers, which are a staple in many Caribbean, Latin American, and African cuisines.
ZONES: Malanga Eddo grows best in USDA Hardiness Zones 9 through 11.
HEIGHT & WIDTH: Typically reaches a height of 3 to 6 feet with a spread of 2 to 4 feet, making it a sizeable garden feature.
USES: It is mainly used for its corms, which can be boiled, fried, or mashed and are rich in carbohydrates. The leaves can also be cooked as greens in some cultures. Malanga Eddo is native to tropical regions of Central and South America and the Caribbean.
SUN: This plant prefers full sun to partial shade.
WATER: Requires consistently moist, well-drained soil. It thrives with regular watering, especially during dry spells, but the soil should not remain waterlogged.
