Lycianthes rantonnetii 'Lynn's Variegated' Blue Potato Bush

Lycianthes rantonnetii 'Lynn's Variegated' Blue Potato Bush

Lycianthes rantonnetii 'Lynn’s Variegated', commonly known as Blue Potato Bush, is a semi-evergreen shrub featuring striking variegated leaves with creamy-white margins and vibrant purple-blue, star-shaped flowers with yellow centers. It blooms from late spring through fall, adding continuous color to landscapes. The foliage and blooms create a bright contrast, making it highly ornamental.

Grow Zone
USDA Hardiness Zones 9 to 11.

Height and Width
Typically grows 6 to 10 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, but can be pruned and maintained as a smaller shrub or trained into a small tree.

Uses
Ideal as a flowering hedge, accent plant, or container specimen. Can be trained on a trellis or shaped as a patio tree. Its vibrant flowers attract bees and butterflies, while its dense growth offers ornamental screening.

Native Range
Native to South America, particularly regions of Argentina and Paraguay, where it grows in warm, sunny conditions.

Sun and Water Requirements
Prefers full sun for best flowering but tolerates light partial shade. Requires moderately fertile, well-drained soil and regular watering during dry periods, though it does not tolerate waterlogged conditions. Once established, it can withstand brief drought but flowers best with consistent moisture.
