Jacobina (Justicia carnea), also known as Brazilian Plume or Flamingo Plant, is a stunning tropical plant often grown for its vibrant pink, tubular flowers and lush green foliage. It is a favorite in tropical and subtropical gardens due to its ornamental appeal.

 Plant Description

- Leaves: Large, dark green, lance-shaped, and slightly velvety in texture.

- Flowers: Dense, plume-like clusters of tubular, pink to magenta flowers that bloom in summer and fall.

- Growth Habit: Upright, bushy, and somewhat tropical-looking.

 Grow Zone

- USDA Zones: 8-11

  - It is frost-tender and thrives in warm climates. In cooler zones, it can be grown as a container plant and brought indoors during the winter.

 Height and Width

- Height: 3-5 feet (0.9 to 1.5 meters)

- Width: 2-3 feet (0.6 to 0.9 meters)

 Growing Conditions

- Light: Prefers partial shade to full sun. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, so it benefits from morning sun and afternoon shade in hotter climates.

- Soil: Well-draining, rich, loamy soil with good organic content. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.

- Watering: Needs regular watering, especially during dry periods. Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.

- Temperature: Thrives in warm, humid conditions. It can tolerate brief dips in temperature but will not survive freezing temperatures.

- Fertilizer: Regular feeding during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer or a diluted liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks will support its lush growth.

 Uses

- Ornamental: Primarily grown for its showy flowers and lush foliage. It’s perfect for tropical-themed gardens, shade gardens, or as a striking container plant on patios and balconies.

- Wildlife Attraction: Jacobina flowers are highly attractive to pollinators such as hummingbirds and butterflies.

- Indoor Plant: Can be grown indoors in bright, indirect light. Ensure high humidity levels and consistent watering for best results.

 Native Range

- Jacobina is native to Brazil and other parts of South America. It thrives in tropical forests, where it grows under the canopy in humid and shaded conditions.
