Gerbera 'Patio Painted Desert'

'Patio Painted Desert' features an upright, mounding habit, producing substantial flowers that can reach impressive sizes. The plant typically grows to a height of 18 to 20 inches (45 to 50 cm) and spreads about 16 to 18 inches (40 to 45 cm) wide.

Hardiness Zone: Gerbera daisies, including the 'Patio Painted Desert' variety, are perennials in USDA hardiness zones 8 through 10. In these regions, they can survive winter conditions and bloom each year. In cooler climates, they are often grown as annuals or overwintered indoors.

Uses: This Gerbera variety is ideal for container gardening on patios and terraces, providing continuous color from late spring until early autumn. Its large, showy blooms also make it a popular choice for cut flower arrangements, bringing vibrant hues indoors.

Cultivation Tips:

• Sunlight: Thrives in full sun but benefits from afternoon shade in hotter climates to prevent heat stress.​

• Soil: Prefers well-drained, organically rich soils. Raised beds or containers are recommended in areas with poor drainage.​

• Watering: Requires moderate watering; avoid overhead irrigation to prevent foliar diseases.​

• Fertilization: Apply a controlled-release fertilizer two to three times during the growing season or use a liquid fertilizer every two weeks to promote healthy growth and abundant blooms.

 Native Range: The species Gerbera jamesonii, commonly known as the Gerbera daisy, originates from southern Africa, including regions like Swaziland.
