Gaura 'Bantam Iris Pink' (Oenothera lindheimeri) is a compact, perennial variety of Gaura, valued for its delicate, airy appearance and prolific blooming of soft pink flowers. It is easy to grow, making it an excellent choice for low-maintenance gardens.

 Plant Description:

- Foliage: Narrow, lance-shaped leaves that are medium to dark green, sometimes with a slight reddish or bronze tint. The foliage forms a low, tidy mound at the base of the plant.

- Flowers: Delicate, soft pink, star-shaped flowers with four petals, resembling small butterflies. The flowers bloom on slender, upright stems that rise above the foliage and create a light, airy effect. Flowers bloom continuously from late spring through fall.

- Growth Habit: Compact, clump-forming, and bushy with an upright habit. The stems are thin and flexible, allowing them to sway gently in the breeze.

 Growing Conditions:

- Hardiness Zones: USDA zones 6-10.

- Height: 12 to 18 inches (30 to 45 cm).

- Width: 12 to 18 inches (30 to 45 cm).

- Sun Exposure: Prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade. In hotter climates, a bit of afternoon shade can help prevent leaf scorching.

- Soil: Well-drained, sandy, or loamy soil. It thrives in poor to moderately fertile soils and is tolerant of dry conditions once established. Avoid heavy or waterlogged soils, as these can lead to root rot.

- Watering: Moderate. Water regularly until established, then reduce watering. Gaura is drought-tolerant once mature but benefits from occasional watering during dry periods.

 Planting and Care Tips:

- Planting Time: Plant in spring or fall. Ensure the site has good drainage, especially in winter.

- Spacing: Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart for good air circulation and healthy growth.

- Fertilization: Minimal fertilization is needed. If desired, use a balanced fertilizer in early spring to encourage strong growth. Avoid over-fertilizing, as it can cause the plant to become leggy.

- Pruning: Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage more blooms and maintain the plant’s neat appearance. In early spring, cut back old stems to the base to encourage fresh growth and maintain a compact habit.

- Winter Care: In colder zones (6), a layer of mulch around the base of the plant can help protect the roots from winter cold. In warmer zones, Gaura remains evergreen.

 Uses:

- Borders and Edging: 'Bantam Iris Pink' is ideal for front-of-border planting, where its delicate flowers and compact size can be fully appreciated.

- Containers: It’s perfect for container gardening due to its small size and long blooming period, making it a great addition to patios or balconies.

- Cottage and Informal Gardens: The soft, flowing look of Gaura pairs well with other flowering perennials in a cottage garden setting.

- Pollinator Gardens: The flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it a great addition to wildlife or pollinator-friendly gardens.

- Xeriscaping and Drought-Tolerant Gardens: 'Bantam Iris Pink' is drought-tolerant once established, making it a good choice for water-wise or xeriscape gardens.

 Native Range:

Gaura (Oenothera lindheimeri) is native to the southern United States, particularly Texas and Louisiana, where it thrives in prairies and open woodlands. This native range contributes to its tolerance of heat, drought, and poor soil conditions.
