Duranta ‘Sapphire Showers’

Duranta ‘Sapphire Showers’ is an ornamental shrub or small tree known for its cascading clusters of vibrant violet-blue flowers edged in white. These fragrant blooms attract pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Following the flowers, it produces golden-yellow berries, which add further ornamental interest. The foliage is semi-evergreen to evergreen, with glossy green leaves.

Grow Zone:
USDA Zones 9–11. In cooler climates, it can be grown as an annual or in containers and overwintered indoors.

Height and Width:
Mature height ranges from 8 to 15 feet
Mature spread is 6 to 10 feet

Bloom Cycle:
Duranta ‘Sapphire Showers’ has a long blooming season, typically from late spring through fall in warm climates. In USDA Zones 9–11, it may bloom almost year-round, especially with regular pruning and feeding. Flowering is most prolific during the warmer months when the plant receives full sun and adequate moisture. Cooler temperatures or reduced sunlight may temporarily reduce blooming.

Uses:
Excellent as a specimen plant, informal hedge, or backdrop in butterfly gardens. It can also be trained as a small ornamental tree. Suitable for large containers and mixed shrub borders. Its long blooming period makes it valuable for continuous seasonal color.

Native Range:
Tropical Americas, including parts of Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America.
