Plant Description
Discovered in France in the 20th century, Lavandula x intermedia, is a natural hybrid of English and Portuguese lavender. Commonly referred to as lavender, Lavendula x intermedis is native to the Mediterranean region and the oils were first extracted by the Romans for use in bathing. The name lavender is believed to have come from the Latin verb “lavare” or “livendulo” which means “to wash” or “livid or bluish”, respectively. In the Middle Ages, lavender was used as an aphrodisiac and considered the herb of love.
