Dahlia 'Selecta Lavender' is a striking, decorative dahlia variety known for its soft lavender to pink-purple blooms with delicate petal structure and a lush, full appearance. Flowers are typically double and rounded, making them excellent for garden display or cut flower arrangements. The foliage is deep green and forms a bushy backdrop that contrasts beautifully with the blooms.
Grow Zone:
USDA Hardiness Zones 8–11. In Zone 9, tubers can often overwinter in the ground with mulch protection.
Height and Width:
Mature plants typically reach 18–24 inches tall and spread about 18 inches wide.
Uses:
Ideal for borders, cut flower gardens, containers, cottage gardens, and pollinator-friendly plantings. Their color and form make them attractive for floral arrangements and garden focal points.
Native Range:
Dahlias are native to the mountainous regions of Mexico and Central America.
Sun Requirements:
Full sun is preferred. Aim for at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal blooming.
Water Requirements:
Regular watering is essential, especially in hot weather. Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy. Well-draining soil is important to prevent tuber rot. Once established, water deeply 2–3 times per week, adjusting based on rainfall and temperature.
