Cyperus giganteus (Giant Umbrella Plant / Giant Papyrus-type Cyperus)

Plant Description:
Cyperus giganteus is a tall, clump-forming aquatic or semi-aquatic perennial known for its dramatic umbrella-like clusters of fine, radiating leaf bracts at the top of thick, upright stems. The lush, architectural form adds height and movement, especially near water. The foliage remains a vibrant green through warm seasons and creates a tropical, fountain-like appearance in the landscape.

USDA Zones 9–11

Height and Width:
Commonly grows 5–8 feet tall and 3–5 feet wide, depending on moisture and warmth.

Uses:
Ideal for the edges of ponds, water gardens, marshy areas, ditches, and rain gardens. Works well as a bold focal plant in large containers kept consistently wet. Provides habitat for amphibians and small wildlife and creates a strong vertical backdrop in tropical and wetland-style plantings.

Native Range:
Native to tropical and subtropical regions of Central and South America.
