Caladium 'Pearl Blush'
Plant Description
Caladium 'Pearl Blush' is a delicate yet eye-catching variety featuring creamy white, heart-shaped leaves with soft pink blush centers and subtle green margins. Its elegant coloration makes Pearl Blush a standout in shady garden beds or containers.
Native Range
Caladiums originate from the tropical forests of South America, primarily in Brazil, where they grow as understory plants in warm, humid environments.
USDA Growing Zones
Perennial in Zones: 9–11
Annual in Zones: 3–8 (can be overwintered by storing tubers)
Size (Height & Width)
Height: 12–18 inches
Spread: 12–18 inches
Growing Conditions
Light Requirements: Best in partial to full shade; some morning sun is tolerated. Too much direct sun may cause leaf scorch.
Soil: Prefers rich, well-draining, and organic soil with good moisture retention. Ideal pH range: 5.5–6.5 (slightly acidic to neutral).
Watering: Requires consistent moisture but should not sit in standing water. Allow the top inch of soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Temperature & Humidity: Thrives in warm, humid conditions. Minimum soil temperature of 70°F (21°C) needed for tuber sprouting. Sensitive to temperatures below 50°F (10°C)—avoid cold drafts.
Fertilization: Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer (10-10-10) at planting. Supplement with a diluted liquid fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during active growth.
Mulching: A 2-inch mulch layer helps retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.
Overwintering: In colder zones, lift tubers before the first frost. Allow them to dry for a few days and store in peat moss or dry soil at 55°F (13°C).
Uses in the Landscape
Shaded Borders & Beds: Brightens up darker garden areas.
Containers & Hanging Baskets: Excellent for patios and porches.
Indoor Plant: Can be grown indoors with proper humidity and indirect light.
Companion Planting: Pairs well with ferns, hostas, and impatiens for a lush, tropical look.
