Bracteantha Granvia Crimson Sun

Bracteantha Granvia Crimson Sun

Plant name: Bracteantha Granvia Crimson Sun

Scientific name: Xerochrysum bracteatum ‘Granvia Crimson Sun’

Plant description:
Bracteantha Granvia Crimson Sun is a large-flowered strawflower selection bred for bold color, strong branching, and extended bloom performance. This variety forms a dense, rounded plant with sturdy stems capable of supporting oversized blooms without flopping. It is widely used in high-impact container plantings, landscape beds, and seasonal color displays due to its uniform growth and reliable flowering.

Flower description:
Blooms are large and layered with deep crimson-red bracts surrounding a golden-yellow central disc. The papery petals hold their structure and color through heat and bright light. Flowers often measure 3–4 inches across and are produced continuously throughout the warm season when properly maintained.

Leaf description:
Leaves are narrow, lance-shaped, and medium green with a slightly textured surface. Foliage forms a full, supportive base that highlights the vivid flower color while maintaining a compact overall shape.

Deciduous or evergreen:
Annual

USDA grow zones:
Grown as an annual in all USDA zones

Mature height and width:
Typically 12–18 inches tall and 12–18 inches wide, forming a well-branched, rounded plant

Landscape uses:
Suitable for mass plantings, mixed borders, patio containers, and cutting gardens. Its large blooms provide strong focal color in combination planters and seasonal displays. The long-lasting flowers also perform well in fresh arrangements.

Native range:
Species native to Australia; ‘Granvia Crimson Sun’ is a cultivated selection

Sun exposure:
Full sun is required for strong stems and maximum bloom production. Insufficient light may result in reduced flowering and weaker growth.

Water requirements:
Provide moderate water during establishment. Once established, allow the soil surface to dry slightly between waterings. Consistent drainage is essential to prevent root problems.

Pests and problems:
Generally low maintenance. May occasionally experience aphids or spider mites under stress. Poor air circulation and overwatering can contribute to fungal issues.

Heat and sun tolerance:
Performs reliably in warm temperatures and tolerates intense sunlight. Flower color remains stable and does not fade quickly under bright exposure.

Cold tolerance:
Sensitive to frost. Growth slows in cool weather, and plants will decline when exposed to freezing conditions.

Growing tips:
Plant in well-drained soil and provide adequate spacing to promote airflow. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continued flowering and maintain a clean appearance. Avoid heavy nitrogen fertilization, which can increase foliage at the expense of bloom size. Light feeding during the growing season supports steady growth and extended color display.
