Azalea, Encore® Autumn Lily® PP# 25073

Encore® Azalea Autumn Lily® PP#25073

Scientific name: Rhododendron ‘Lily’

Encore® Azalea Autumn Lily® is a reblooming evergreen azalea selected for its refined flower form, compact growth habit, and dependable multi-season bloom. Part of the Encore® series, this cultivar offers repeat flowering and improved sun tolerance compared to traditional azaleas, providing extended landscape value.

Plant description:
Lily® grows as a dense, mounded shrub with a uniform, well-branched structure. Its compact size and clean outline make it easy to integrate into both formal and casual landscape designs without frequent pruning.

Flower description:
Flowers are soft white with delicate, lily-like form and subtle elegance. A strong spring bloom is followed by repeat flowering in summer and fall, delivering consistent color across multiple seasons. The restrained white blooms create contrast in mixed plantings and brighten shaded areas.

Leaf description:
Leaves are glossy, dark green, and evergreen, offering year-round structure and visual interest. New growth emerges lighter green before maturing into deeper tones.

Deciduous or evergreen:
Evergreen.

USDA grow zones:
Zones 7–10.

Mature height and width:
Approximately 4–5 feet tall and 4–5 feet wide.

Landscape uses:
Well suited for foundation plantings, low screens, mass plantings, mixed shrub borders, entryway accents, and large containers. Its slightly larger mature size allows it to function as a soft hedge or anchor plant in layered designs.

Native range:
Not native. This hybrid azalea was developed from Asian evergreen azalea species.

Sun exposure:
Performs well in full sun to partial shade. Adequate sun exposure supports stronger reblooming and fuller growth.

Water requirements:
Moderate. Prefers evenly moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Avoid consistently wet conditions, which can lead to root problems.

Pests and problems:
Potential issues include azalea lace bugs, spider mites, root rot in poorly drained soils, and nutrient deficiencies in alkaline soils. Proper site selection and soil preparation help minimize these concerns.

Heat and sun tolerance:
Demonstrates good heat tolerance and maintains foliage quality in brighter planting locations compared to traditional azaleas.

Cold tolerance:
Cold hardy to approximately -10°F once established, with dependable performance across its recommended growing zones.

Growing tips:
Plant in acidic, organic-rich soil with excellent drainage. Apply mulch to conserve moisture and stabilize soil temperatures, keeping mulch away from the base of the plant. Provide consistent watering during the establishment period and during extended dry spells. If pruning is necessary, do so immediately after the main spring bloom to preserve future flower cycles. Feed with a fertilizer formulated for azaleas to encourage healthy growth, rich foliage color, and repeat flowering.
