Azalea, Encore® Autumn Ivory® PP# 25046

Encore® Azalea Autumn Ivory® PP#25046

Scientific name: Rhododendron ‘Ivory’

Encore® Azalea Autumn Ivory® is a reblooming evergreen azalea selected for refined flower color, compact form, and extended seasonal bloom. As part of the Encore® series, this cultivar delivers repeat flowering and improved sun tolerance, offering reliable performance in a wide range of landscape settings.

Plant description:
Ivory® grows as a dense, mounded shrub with a balanced, uniform habit. Its compact size and clean structure make it easy to incorporate into both formal and naturalistic designs without frequent pruning.

Flower description:
Blooms are soft ivory to creamy white with subtle warmth that distinguishes them from pure white varieties. A strong spring display is followed by repeat flowering in summer and fall, extending color well beyond the traditional azalea season. The neutral flower tone pairs easily with both bold and muted landscape palettes.

Leaf description:
Leaves are glossy, dark green, and evergreen, providing year-round structure and contrast. New growth emerges lighter green before maturing into a deeper, polished finish.

Deciduous or evergreen:
Evergreen.

USDA grow zones:
Zones 7–10.

Mature height and width:
Approximately 4–5 feet tall and 4–5 feet wide.

Landscape uses:
Well suited for foundation plantings, hedges, mass plantings, mixed shrub borders, entryway accents, and large containers. Its slightly larger size compared to some Encore® varieties makes it effective as a low screen or repeating anchor plant.

Native range:
Not native. This hybrid azalea was developed from Asian evergreen azalea species.

Sun exposure:
Performs well in full sun to partial shade. Adequate sun exposure encourages stronger reblooming and fuller growth.

Water requirements:
Moderate. Prefers consistently moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Avoid standing water, which can lead to root issues.

Pests and problems:
Possible concerns include azalea lace bugs, spider mites, root rot in poorly drained soils, and nutrient deficiencies in alkaline soils. Maintaining proper soil pH and drainage minimizes problems.

Heat and sun tolerance:
Demonstrates good heat tolerance and maintains foliage quality under increased sun exposure compared to traditional azaleas.

Cold tolerance:
Cold hardy to approximately -10°F once established, with dependable performance throughout its recommended growing range.

Growing tips:
Plant in acidic, organic-rich soil with excellent drainage. Mulch to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperatures, keeping mulch away from the base of the plant. Provide consistent watering during establishment and during extended dry periods. Prune only if needed and do so immediately after the main spring bloom to preserve future flowering cycles. Apply an azalea-specific fertilizer to support healthy growth, deep foliage color, and repeat blooming.
