Scaevola 'Pink Blessing', also known as the Fan Flower, is a vibrant and low-maintenance trailing plant that produces an abundance of unique, fan-shaped pink flowers with white centers. This variety is particularly known for its long blooming period, often lasting from spring through to fall. Scaevola 'Pink Blessing' has a compact, spreading habit, making it an excellent choice for containers, hanging baskets, or ground cover. The plant is also heat-tolerant and drought-resistant, thriving in full sun or partial shade.

Height and Width:

  • Height: 12–18 inches (30–45 cm)

  • Width: 18–24 inches (45–60 cm)

USDA Grow Zones:

  • Zones 9-11: Perennial

  • Zones 2-8: Grow as an annual or in containers that can be brought indoors during colder months

Growing Conditions:

  • Light: Full sun to partial shade (preferably full sun for the best flowering)

  • Soil: Well-draining, sandy or loamy soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0-7.0)

  • Water: Moderate – prefers soil that is consistently moist but well-drained. Once established, it is somewhat drought-tolerant but benefits from regular watering.

  • Fertilizer: Fertilize once a month with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer or use a water-soluble fertilizer for stronger growth and more blooms.

Planting Instructions:

  1. Timing: Plant after the last frost date, or start indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost.

  2. Spacing: Space plants about 18-24 inches apart to allow room for the spreading growth.

  3. Maintenance: Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage continued blooming. Cut back any leggy or overgrown stems to keep the plant tidy and encourage new growth. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and reduce weeds.

Uses:

  • Ideal for hanging baskets, containers, and window boxes due to its trailing nature.

  • Perfect as ground cover or for landscape borders.

  • Adds vibrant color to mixed containers and flower beds.

  • Great for low-maintenance gardens because it is heat and drought-tolerant.

Native Range:

Scaevola species are native to Australia, with some varieties also found in Pacific Islands. Scaevola 'Pink Blessing' is a hybrid that was bred for improved performance in a variety of climates, particularly as an ornamental plant in landscaping.
