The Crimson Bottle Brush is a striking evergreen shrub or small tree known for its vivid red, brush-like flower spikes that resemble a traditional bottle brush. These flowers, rich in nectar, are highly attractive to hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. The foliage is narrow, leathery, and aromatic when crushed, often releasing a citrus scent. Its ornamental bark and bright green foliage provide year-round interest.
Grow Zone:
USDA Hardiness Zones 8–11. Can be grown in Zone 7 with winter protection.
Height and Width:
Mature plants typically reach 8 to 15 feet tall and 6 to 12 feet wide, depending on pruning and growing conditions.
Uses:
Excellent as a specimen plant, hedge, or screen. Also works well in coastal landscapes due to its salt tolerance. It thrives in wildlife gardens and pollinator-friendly plantings. Can be grown in large containers in colder zones and overwintered indoors.
Native Range:
Southeastern Australia. Though not native to the U.S., it is well-adapted to warm, sunny climates with well-drained soils.
