Size Matters - Understanding Cup Size

Size Matters - Understanding Cup Size

When choosing the perfect coffee or tea mug, size matters. Nothing is worse than a cup that is too big or too small. We want you to have the right size cup for you, so we created a size guide to help you get started.

Our two favorite mug sizes are 11 ounces and 15 ounces. These measurements are the maximum holding capacity for these mugs. While the 4 ounce difference is, well, only 4 ounces, while it doesn't seem like much, these 4 ounces truly count.

Let me explain.

An 11 ounce mug is, for me, a single shot cup. It's the cup I'm going to grab when I'm pouring a cup of coffee out of the coffee pot or looking for a mug to place under my automatic brewer.

A 15 ounce mug is usually my go-to. I use this mug when I'm making a double shot of espresso with steamed milk. It is the "I need strong coffee and a lot of it ASAP" mug I can't wait to wrap my hands around.

Speaking of wrapping your hands around a mug, when choosing your favorite mug the size difference between 11 ounces and 15 ounces can make a huge difference to your holding comfort. The 15 ounce mug is wider and taller than an 11 ounce mug. For some, this size difference may not mean much, while for others it may.

At the end of the day (or beginning of the morning), it's all about what works best for you. When deciding on what size fits you best, rely on what you already have in your pantry and your drinking habits. If you want all the coffee you can get in the morning without the need for constant refills, the 15 ounce cup may be best for you.
