BENEFITS AND USES

Mugwort is believed to have numerous benefits and uses. Below are a few common uses for mugwort:

  • Mugwort is said to help with gastric ulcers;
  • Mugwort supports functions of the liver;
  • Used externally, mugwort can be used as an antifungal;
  • Mugwort is good for promoting Dreams and is said to assist with lucid dreams
  • Ease anxiety 
  • Mugwort promotes musuration and regulates irregular periods
  •  Colic
  • Insomnia


WARNINGS

Mugwort contains a chemical called thujone, which might stimulate the uterus. In pregnancy, this could cause premature labor resulting in miscarriage. Do not use if pregnant. Not recommended if breastfeeding. Not recommended for children. Avoid if you have an allergy to ragweed. celery, birch or carrot. Mild allergic reactions include hives or rash, itching, mouth tingling, swollen lips, headaches, stomach pain,nausea or vomiting. Severe allergic reactions include sudden, severe hives or rash, wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath,rapid or irregular heartbeats, swelling of the face, throat, or neck, lightheadedness or fainting. Severe allergic symptoms are signs of a whole-body reaction called anaphylaxis, which is a medical emergency that can lead to shock and death if not treated immediately.

DOSAGE AND PREPARATIONS

Mugwort can be used as a cooking seasoning and used medicinally. There is no recommended dose of mugwort. 

RECIPE

Mugwort Tea
  • Boil 1 cup of water
  • Using a tea infuser, steep 1 1/2 teaspoons of dried mugwort in water for 10 minutes
  • Sweeten with honey (optional)
  • Cool until warm before drinking

Dosage: Do not use for more than two weeks at a time.
