Coleus 'Flame Thrower Serrano'

Coleus Flame Thrower Serrano is a stunning, heat-tolerant foliage plant known for its deep burgundy leaves edged with bright lime-green margins. This compact, mounding variety is prized for its bold color contrast and is ideal for adding vibrancy to gardens, borders, and containers. Unlike some coleus varieties, Flame Thrower Serrano maintains its color well even in sunnier conditions.

Native Range

Coleus (Plectranthus scutellarioides, formerly Solenostemon scutellarioides) is native to Southeast Asia and Australia but has been widely cultivated as an ornamental plant.

Growing Conditions

• Light: Partial shade to full sun (best color development occurs in bright, indirect light or morning sun with afternoon shade).

• Soil: Well-draining, rich in organic matter; prefers a neutral to slightly acidic pH (6.0–7.0).

• Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy; allow the top inch to dry slightly between waterings.

• Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity; can be grown indoors with adequate humidity.

• Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures (65–85°F / 18–29°C); avoid temperatures below 50°F.

• Fertilizer: Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the growing season.

Pruning & Maintenance

• Pinch back new growth to encourage a bushier shape.

• Remove flower spikes when they appear to focus energy on foliage production.

• Protect from strong winds if grown in containers or exposed areas.
